ADQUIRIR EL MISMO ALIMENTO:
Puedes comprar todos los enseres del gato donde tú consideres, aunque te informamos que nosotros tenemos a tu disposición en nuestra Selección Gatoteca todo lo necesario y recomendado y, comprándolo con nosotros, ayudas al proyecto y nuestros gatos. Lo que sí te solicitamos es comprar un saco de alimento de lo mismo que está ahora consumiendo el gato, para no añadir un estrés digestivo al que ya padecerá por la propia adopción. Luego, podrás ofrecerle el alimento que tú consideres.
AJUAR FELINO:
Utilizamos este término para referirnos a todos los artículos y enseres que un gato necesita en el hogar: transportín, arenero, rascadores, juguetes, etc. Te recomendamos que veas el Curso Básico del Gato antes de comprarlo, ya que ahí verás qué se recomienda y qué no, y por qué. Y no te vuelvas loco porque cada gato es un mundo. Compra lo básico de buena calidad y, conforme vayas conociendo a tu nuevo familiar peludo, sabrás qué necesita de forma más específica.
En la Selección La Gatoteca tenemos todos los artículos que necesitas para tu gatete en esta primera etapa, y con un 5% de descuento en el donativo, pues ya serán socio en activo. Agradecemos mucho que también colabores de esta manera, pero eres completamente libre de comprarlo donde tú consideres.
CAMBIO DE NOMBRE:
Nos vemos en la obligación administrativa de entregar al gato con el nombre con el que está en nuestros registros. Pero eres libre de, una vez el gato es de tu propiedad, cambiarle el nombre al que tú desees, ya sea a nivel familiar, como formalmente en el Registro de Animales de Compañía.
Cuando te llegue el enlace para el cambio de propietario, solo acéptalo, porque si intentas hacer cualquier otra gestión, la plataforma da problemas. Una vez esté a tu nombre, si quieres cambiarle el nombre, te indicaremos cómo llevarlo a cabo.

Therefore, if you're interested in adopting with us, please send us your application. We can conduct our interview in English, and you can also access the Basic Course of the Cat dubbed and subtitled in English.
ADOPCIONES A DISTANCIA:
Gestionamos habitualmente adopciones fuera de la Comunidad de Madrid sin problema alguno. De hecho, casi todo el proceso de adopción se puede realizar online.
Sí dejamos claro un par de cosas. Que no se puede comprometer ningún gato sin haberlo conocido personalmente, por lo que deberás visitar nuestras instalaciones en algún momento. Que no se envían gatos, es decir, la recogida en adopción debe ser presencial en nuestras instalaciones. Y que si hay que realizar algún protocolo veterinario extraordinario, podemos efectuarlo por ti, pero los costes económicos del mismo, serán cubiertos por la nueva familia.
REVISIONES DE SALUD:
Nuestro trabajo como asociación, e intención en cada proceso de adopción, es que el gato llegue sanitariamente perfecto a su nuevo hogar. Adoptando con nosotros, tu misión es centrarte en la adaptación del gato y en generar familiaridad. Obvio que si hay síntomas de enfermedad, así como alguna urgencia, le proveerás de atención veterinaria. Pero, si no se diera el caso, te recomendamos hacerle una revisión rutinaria cuando ya llevéis juntos unos tres o cuatro meses, y así también marcarte la pauta de revisión anual. Recomendamos un mínimo de chequeo físico, analítica básica y radiografía. Si el veterinario considera que es recomendable realizar algún tipo de prueba complementaria, sigue sus indicaciones.
PIPETA E IMPROMUNE:
Cuando entregamos a nuestros gatos, os damos una pipeta desparasitante, y la persona que te atienda durante la recogida, te explicará cómo aplicarla. Aunque desparasitamos con muchísima regularidad, nos sentimos más tranquilos si podéis repetir esta desparasitación en el hogar.
También os entregamos Impromune para unos días. Es un suplemento alimenticio que se da machacado con la comida y ayuda a reforzar el sistema inmunitario del gato que, con el estrés del cambio de ubicación, puede alterarse. Algunos gatos no quieren comérselo, no te preocupes, esto es una ayuda, pero no es una medicación. Si no lo quiere, no le fuerces...
MENCIÓN ESPECIAL A PARÁSITOS INTESTINALES:
Hay ciertos parásitos intestinales, principalmente giardias y coccidios, que son endémicos, y que los desparasitadores comunes no eliminan. Todo gato que ha pasado por calle o refugios, sobre todo si son jovencitos o con un sistema incompetente, pueden desarrollarlos cuando se someten a un pico de estrés, como es una adopción y cambio de territorio, familia y rutinas. Son comunes y no son peligrosos, para que te hagas a la idea, el 80% de los perros con hogar los sufren en algún momento de su vida, por las cosas que olisquean en los paseos.
No son contagiosos a humanos, solo entre gatos, y no va a peligrar la vida del animal, pero sí que se come parte de los nutrientes que el gato ingiere, por lo que es aconsejable eliminarlas. Si se diera el caso de que el gato adoptado hace heces normales y, de un día para otro, comienza con diarrea muy blanda y con olor ácido, ponte en contacto con nosotros y te ayudamos a solucionarlo, nos responsabilizamos de este tema. No obstante, pasa en menos de un 2% de los gatos que entregamos, pero estos parásitos son unos pesados...

PURCHASE THE SAME FOOD:
You can purchase all your cat supplies wherever you like, although we would like to inform you that we have everything you need and recommend available in our Gatoteca Selection. By purchasing from us, you are helping the project and our cats aswell. What we do ask is that you buy a bag of the same food that the cat is currently eating, so as not to add digestive stress to what it will already be experiencing due to the adoption itself. Then, you can offer them whatever food you consider appropriate.
CAT SUPPLIES:
We use this term to refer to all the items and equipment a cat needs in the home: carrier, litter tray, scratching posts, toys, etc. We recommend that you watch the Basic Cat Course before purchasing it, as there you will see what is recommended and what is not, and why. And don't go mad because every cat is unique. Buy good quality basics and, as you get to know your new furry family member, you will learn what they need more specifically.
At La Gatoteca Selection, we have all the items you need for your cat in this early stage, and with a 5% discount on the donation, as you will already be an active member. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in this matter, but you are completely free to purchase it anywhere you want.
CHANGE OF NAME:
We are administratively obliged to hand over the cat with the name it has in our records. However, once the cat is your property, you are free to change its name to whatever you wish, either within your family or formally in the Pet Registry.

LONG-DISTANCE ADOPTIONS:
We regularly manage adoptions outside the Community of Madrid without any problems. In fact, almost the entire adoption process can be completed online.
Let us clarify a couple of things. No cat can be reserved without having met it in person, so you will need to visit our facilities at some point. No cats will be shipped; adoption must take place in person at our facilities. And if any special veterinary procedures are required, we can carry them out for you, but the costs will be covered by the new family.
HEALTH CHECK-UPS:
Our job as an association, and our intention in every adoption process, is to ensure that the cat arrives at its new home in perfect health. When you adopt with us, your mission is to focus on helping the cat adapt and feel at home. Obviously, if there are symptoms of illness, as well as any emergency, you will provide veterinary care. However, if this is not the case, we recommend that you take it in for a routine check-up after you have been together for three or four months, and then set yourself an annual check-up schedule. We recommend a minimum physical examination, basic blood tests, and an X-ray. If the vet considers it advisable to carry out any additional tests, follow their instructions.
PIPETTE IN IMPROMUNE:
When we hand over to you our cats, we give you a deworming pipette, and the person who attends to you during collection will explain how to apply it. Although we deworm very regularly, we feel more comfortable if you can repeat this deworming at home.
We will also give you Impromune for a few days. It is a food supplement that is crushed and mixed with food to help strengthen the cat's immune system, which can be affected by the stress of moving to a new location. Some cats do not want to eat it, but do not worry, this is a supplement, not a medicine. If the cat doesn't want it, don't force it...
SPECIAL MENTION FOR INTESTINAL PARASITES:
There are certain intestinal parasites, mainly giardia and coccidia, which are endemic and cannot be eliminated by common deworming treatments. Any cat that has lived on the streets or in shelters, especially if they are young or have an incompetent system, can develop these behaviours when subjected to peak stress, such as adoption and a change of territory, family and routines. They are common and not dangerous. To give you an idea, 80% of dogs with homes suffer from them at some point in their lives, due to the things they sniff on walks.
They are not contagious to humans, only between cats, and they do not endanger the animal's life, but they do consume some of the nutrients that the cat ingests, so it is advisable to remove them. If your adopted cat is producing normal stools and then suddenly develops very loose, acidic-smelling diarrhoea, please contact us and we will help you resolve the issue.
